1m2 performance

"We turn around objects like words, produce poetry, bend meaning, and break movement. We place poetics, play table tennis, and calculate space. We solve problems, read lists, and have radios broadcast syllables. We transport facts and try to twist around reason. We arrange objects, count signs, divide time, in order to zigzag towards the future with the audience."

One square metre is not much space. But with Andrea Maurer and Nicholas Hoffman it becomes immeasurable. Based on the material that towers in front of them as a heap on a square area, in 1 m2 performance they dedicate themselves to the theme of artistic work. Level by level they reduce the heap of material so that its individual building blocks are unfolded, rearranged, and repeatedly rebuilt. While the objects coming to light always fulfill new functions – as utilitarian object, sculpture, supporting construction, tool, or toy – the performers recite poems, successively turning a connection between word and object upside down.
