flapstick is a 5-channel installation displayed on 5 monitors, which are placed side by side and constitute a sequence of moving images. Each monitor shows the same image: an apparently two-dimensional landscape on which a three-dimensional character interacts with its environment. Moving from one monitor to the other, the performer turns and shifts the sense of the images: signs appear out of specific movements, randomly thrown sticks or carefully constructed images.
flapstick experiments with the perception of pictorial language and different ways to organize images. The continuous change of interrelations within and between the images shifts between sense and nonsense.
